The grant allocation process for the school year 2009-2010 went well. There were grants requested in the total sum of $72,000; the CEF Grant Committee granted $44,000 towards grant requests. The CEF Board had allotted $46,500 towards grants for this school year.
The Elementary School students will benefit in many ways. There will be field trips to see plays at Wells Fargo Center by kindergartners, 1st graders and 4th grade band students. Second graders will be going to the Sonoma Coast & also to the Steinhart Aquarium. Third graders will be going to the SF Exploratorium & also to the Lawrence Hall of Science. Fourth graders will be going to the Sonoma Mission & Barracks & also to Sacramento to see Sutter’s Fort, the Railroad & the Indian Museums. Fifth graders will be going on a Marine Science Research Voyage. Sixth graders will be going to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum. Band students in 5th & 6th grade will be competing in the Music in the Parks. GATE students in 3rd & 4th grade will be going to a metal sculpture studio. GATE students in 5th & 6th grade will be taking a tour of the SF Mission Murals. Various manipulatives and programs were granted to different grades. The Art Docent program was given funds.
The Junior/Senior High School students will also benefit. The Leadership class will take a Challenge Ropes Course. Several course classes will be going to the DeYoung Museum. The AP Literature class will tour famous literary locations in SF. Drama & Art classes will be going to the War Memorial Theatre. Band students will be competing in the Music in the Parks. Three computers were given to a science class. A large TV was given to a science class to enhance video microscopy work. The woodshop class & drafting class were given tools & supplies. The Spanish class & the library were given learning DVD’s.
The CEF is fortunate to be able to fund all of these wonderful grants because of the generous donations of money and time given by our wonderful volunteers and supporters.
